Random Thought

I just got back from Costco and I wanted to share a thought I had while I was waiting in the gas line. Do most cars have their gas thing on the left side (when looking at from the back)? I swear the line is always longer for those who have the gas thing on the left. Which cars have the gas thing on the right side?

It has to do with the maker of the car... my (limited) understanding is that American and Japanese models have it on the left while other makers put it on the right. But I really only say this because my Toyota has it on the left, the Dodge my dad used to have had it on the left, and my best friend's VW bug had it on the right. But now that I'm thinking about this more, I'm pretty sure her subaru also has it on the right. So really, maybe each company just flips a coin?

There really is no rhyme or reason to it, to be honest. It has to do where there is room for the maximum sized gas tank when the car is being designed. With that said, often most models of car all have it on the same side. However, it's not always the case. Your Nissan has the gas tank on the driver side, while my Nissan has it on the passenger side. It all depends on the car's design. At least, that is according to Justin, he of the ridiculous Car Knowledge.

I think it does depend on the make of the car. I did a scientific (not really) survey in the parking lot of my gym and I noticed that some Japanese cars had it on either side. Although I will say that the predominant side is the left side. Poop. That is why the line is always longer for the driver side people. I will take this into consideration when I buy my next car in 10 yrs.
